The humble beginning of Mutaiya Wooden Sundry Shop at 77 Jalan Kuala Ketil, Pekan Lama, 08000 Sungai Petani, Kedah. It’s sold all varieties of Indian Herbs & Spices, along with daily Grocery Items. Citizens of Sungai Petani showed their tremendous support by being regular customers of the shop. In 1980, the legacy was passed down to the late Mr R.M Mutaiya’s eldest son, Mr Varatharaju Mutaiya. With sincerity to serve the citizens of the state, full pledged commitment, well planned strategies, an excellent back-up team and full on customers support, Mutaiya Sundry Shop legally registered as Mutaiya Trading. Mr Varatharaju younger brother Mr Vasudevan Mutaiya joined the team in year 1985.

In order to gain additional income Mr Vasudevan Mutaiya also sells shop groceries items at “Night Market” in old 3 wheels drive. After uphill struggle in Year 1990, shop moved to 525 A, Jalan Kuala Ketil, 08000 Sungai Petani shop lot with spacious place for customers to shop as their preference. The shop business began to bloom and the name of the shop became well known to people in the entire state of Kedah D.A. Mr Varatharaju’s humble and caring customer approach was exceptionally liked by the citizens. In 1995 Mutaiya Trading expanded its business by renting 2 more shop lots which is 525 A, D & E, in a row, to expand the variety and range of items being sold to aid in the customers’ shopping convenience. During this period of time, the number of customer base increased and with huge demands and requests. It was the first milestone of selling imported grocery items in the shop. Mutaiyas Trading hence earned the prestige and recognition from the public for the good quality and cost effective products being sold. Our aim and goal has always been to be the leading one–stop centre for household goods for all families. This ambition became a reality in the year of 2000 as Mr. Vasudevan Mutaiya, the younger brother of Mr. Varatharaju Mutaiya took over and was entrusted with leading the family business. His motto and axiom was to ‘Let the New Generation Lead’. Mutaiya Trading was well aware of the surrounding as fast development of the country, the contemporary and near future needs of the public, hence, strove and ventured to meet the expectations, resulting in a vast range experience of the latest household products in the market, with affordable prices.

As the dream of becoming a leading one stop centre embellished into a reality, Mutaiyas Cash & Carry began offering and supplying the public, a wide diversity of products to meet the mass market demands, such as local & international Grocery Items, Indian Pooja Items, branded Personal Care & Medical Products with (WHO) approval, Food & Beverage, and Indian Herbs & Spices. Mr Vasu stood his ground firmly and was passionate to pursue further into his entrepreneurial journey with his very own business motto ‘Dream Big, Stay Positive & Work Hard’.  He conquered the whole row of shop lots and expanded Mutaiyas Cash & Carry with the proud address of 525 A – E, Jalan Kuala Ketil, 08000 Sungai Petani, Kedah. In the year of 2020 Mutaiyas Cash&Carry expended
its store to nearby premises which is 531, Jalan Kuala Ketil, 08000 Sungai Petani, Kedah. Mainly this
premises to equipped & sell indian pooja items, spices & herbs.
Mr Vasu is well known to the public for his character of being a humble and hardworking businessman. He worked hard to spread the Mutaiyas wings and has now proudly established an empire called “MUTAIYA GROUP OF COMPANIES”.
